Rockland Country Club: Assistant Superintendent

Club: Rockland Country Club, 380 US-9W, Sparkill, NY

Operations:  Rockland Country Club is a private 18-hole golf course located in the metropolitan area of New York City.  Founded in 1906, we have a rich history and pay special attention to providing the best possible conditions on a daily basis by using the latest in turf grass research. We recently installed a state of the art Rainbird IC irrigation system, new cart paths. We are currently working with Architect John Harvey on developing and constructing a driving range with short game facility and a master plan to include rebuilding all of our bunkers. Rockland has been an environmental leader and has earned numerous awards. We are certified with Audubon International, a member of E-par, have earned the designation of a New York State environmental Leader by the DEC and are members of NABA and Monarch Watch.

Requirements:

  • College degree in related field or Turf grass Certificate. 
  • Minimum of 2 years working on a reputable course or as a summer intern for 2 or more seasons.  
  • Must be able to obtain a NY Pesticide license.
  • Computer skills with an understanding of Trims software is a plus. 
  • Chemical and fertilizer applications, daily course set up, operate and maintain irrigation system.
  • An understanding of the Spanish language and playing golf would be helpful. 


Compensation: Commensurate upon experience. Benefits: Dues to local and National Associations, expenses paid to national convention and local meetings, meals, health benefits, PTO time and golfing privileges. This is full time 12 month position.

Woodside Club: Assistant Superintendent

Club: Woodside Club, 225 Muttontown Eastwoods Rd,  Muttontown NY, 11791

Operations: Woodside Club is an 18-hole, private country club, situated in Muttontown New York. Woodside Club is currently seeking an assistant superintendent who is hard working, self-motivated, shows attention to detail, and has the drive and determination to develop experience and advance in the turf industry. Must have a positive attitude along with a team first mentality while also being a leader and set examples for all employees.

Responsibilities: Assist in assigning daily job assignments to all crew and examine work for exactness, quality, and conformance to club procedure.  Work closely with Superintendent in preparing short-term and long-term agronomic strategies for maintenance of the golf course fertilization, pesticide and irrigation schedules.  Assist in proper application and documentation of all pesticide and fertilizer applications as outlined in agronomic plan.  Assist in inventory of all pesticides, fertilizers, irrigation supplies, shop and course supplies, along with communicating future needs to the superintendent.  Knowledge with Toro irrigation system and Toro Site Pro, plus the ability to repair any and all issues with sprinkler heads, pipe breaks etc.  Assist staff when needed with routine tasks & perform other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications:  2+ years golf course experience required and 2 or 4-year turf degree. Must possess a valid NYS pesticide applicators license or the ability to acquire one within 90 days. Prior management experience a plus. Possess basic computer skills (Word, Excel etc.)  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must possess a strong passion for the game of golf.

Fairview Country Club: Assistant Superintendent

Course: Fairview Country Club, 1241 King Street, Greenwich, CT 06831

Operations: Fairview Country Club is a private country club with an 18-hole golf course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr. There are also 12 tennis courts, 3 paddle courts, a swimming pool complex, and a practice range. The large clubhouse also includes a hotel for members and their guests. The Club completed a new irrigation installation in 2012, and is preparing to begin implementing a Master Plan with Rees Jones in the Fall of 2019 which will include "Better Billy Bunkers".

Responsibilities: Work with the golf course superintendent, and the other assistant superintendent in scheduling, leading, and training the grounds crew in all grounds maintenance activities. The successful candidate will also be responsible for pesticide and fertilizer applications, irrigation system scheduling and maintenance, small construction projects, snow removal, and Audubon program participation.

Qualifications: All candidates should have a turf or related degree, and at least three years’ experience working on a golf course.

Compensation: Highly competitive salary that will be based on experience.
